If your nails are feeling sore, soft, or just a bit worse for wear after acrylics, you’re not alone. At Mooeys, we see lots of clients who come to us after deciding to give acrylics a break and the good news is, with the right care, your nails can recover beautifully.

First things first: Let’s assess the damage

When you visit us, we’ll always start by assessing the condition of your natural nails. Acrylic removal, especially if it’s not done gently or professionally, can leave the nails soft, thin, and even peeling. You might also notice your nails feel weaker than usual, and in some cases, they can be more prone to breaking or sensitivity.

Before we even think about applying gel or another treatment, we need to be sure your nail plate is strong and healthy enough to handle it. Why? Because applying gel to damaged nails can actually cause more problems, like lifting, greenies, bacterial infections, and in more extreme cases, onycholysis where the nail begins to separate from the nail bed.

Time to heal.. with a little hand TLC 

If your nails aren’t quite ready for gel or overlays, don’t worry, we’ve got you. In fact, one of the best things you can do while your nails recover is treat yourself to a ‘Little Treat for the Hands’. This nourishing treatment is designed to hydrate, protect, and give your hands and nails the TLC they deserve.

During this recovery period, it’s all about hydration. Using cuticle oil daily and keeping your hands well moisturised is absolutely vital. These small steps make a huge difference in strengthening the nail plate and speeding up the healing process.

What happens next?

Once your nails have had some time to strengthen, we’ll assess them again and recommend the best next step. This could be a Gel Manicure with a Builder Base, which adds gentle structure and strength while still looking natural and beautiful. Or, if they’re still quite soft, BIAB Overlays might be the better choice to give your nails some added support while they continue to recover underneath.

Either way, our goal is always to get your nails back to looking and feeling their best – safely, and without rushing the process.
