On Monday the 8th September, I had the privilege of attending the SME Surrey Awards, where Mooeys was a finalist in three incredible categories:

  • Business of the Year (less than 50 employees)

  • Business Woman of the Year

  • Service Excellence

Being recognised in not just one but three categories was a real honour and a moment of pride for our entire Mooeys family. But this evening wasn’t just about me or about awards; it was about celebrating the people who truly make Mooeys what it is.

Why I Took Lauren With Me

I was joined by the wonderful Lauren (aka Loz), who has been with me for over a decade. She’s officially our longest-standing team member, and after taking time out to have her children, she has steadily worked her way up the ranks in Farnham to finally managing our Haslemere branch.

Over the years, Lauren has grown with Mooeys in every sense. She’s not only developed her skills and leadership but has also embodied what Mooeys stands for — care, consistency, and creating brilliant experiences for clients.

I’ve never hidden the fact that one of my biggest dreams is for Lauren to one day own her own Mooeys salon. For so many Beauty Therapists, career progression can be limited. Opportunities to step into leadership or management are rare, and making a sustainable income in this industry isn’t always easy. That’s why I’m so proud that Mooeys has been able to create these opportunities, and even prouder that Lauren has seized them with both hands.

The Magic of Service Excellence

While I was delighted to be a finalist in all three categories, the award I secretly hoped we’d win was Service Excellence. Why? Because it isn’t about me — it’s about the team. Service excellence is at the heart of Mooeys, and it’s what every single one of our therapists works so hard to deliver every day.

I wanted Lauren to be the one to collect that award on stage, to take it back to Haslemere, and to share it with her team. Because she truly is the epitome of Mooeys Magic.

She cares deeply about every client who walks through the door. She supports her team with dedication and kindness. And she pours her heart into the business in a way that inspires everyone around her.

More Than Awards

Of course, awards are wonderful recognition, but for me, this experience was about something bigger. It was about shining a light on the people who grow with you, who believe in your vision, and who help make the magic happen every single day.

Having Lauren by my side reminded me why I started Mooeys in the first place: to build a business that values its people, creates opportunities, and proves that the beauty industry can be a career with progression, fulfilment, and success.

Whether or not we came home with a trophy, I know we already have something far more valuable: a team that truly embodies service excellence.

And that, to me, is the greatest win of all.
