In restaurants, the expectations are clearer. You know you’re likely to be prompted to leave something, and most people do. They now even add it automatically to the bill in so many cases (which I am still not sure about to be honest).
But when it comes to beauty salons, things are a little murkier. Should you tip? Is it rude not to? Does it make a difference to how your therapist is paid?

In some places, that’s still true. But it’s also part of a much bigger conversation about fair pay and recognition for skilled work.
At Mooeys, we’ve always been clear: our team members are paid fairly – above the living wage – for the amazing work they do. That’s not up for negotiation. We don’t believe anyone should depend on tips to make ends meet.
Tipping isn’t built into our pay structure. It’s not expected by our team. And it certainly isn’t a measure of how valued you are as a client.
So why offer it at all?
Because sometimes, a tip is about more than money. It’s a quiet way of saying, “You really made my day better.” Or “That extra care didn’t go unnoticed.”
We know how much it can mean to someone who’s had a tough week to come in, relax, and feel properly looked after. And sometimes, clients want a way to express their thanks in that moment.
That’s why we’ve made it easier to tip if you want to, by introducing a new feature through our booking system, Phorest. You’ll now see an option to add a tip directly on the card machine, just like you would in a restaurant. No scanning QR codes, no digging around for cash. Just a simple option, and completely up to you.
What happens to your tip?
If you choose to leave a tip, it goes directly to the Moo who looked after you. It doesn’t come through the salon till. Mooeys doesn’t take a cut, and it’s not pooled. It goes straight to their bank account, because it’s a personal thank you from you to them.
We love this setup because it keeps everything transparent and genuine. It’s not about pushing tipping culture, it’s about giving people the freedom to say thank you in a way that feels right for them.
What if you don’t tip?
Then nothing changes. Truly.
You’ll still get the same level of service, the same high standards, and the same warm welcome. That’s not just a promise, it’s the culture we live by.
Tipping should never feel like an obligation. It’s not a reflection of your worth as a client, or our team’s value as professionals.
