Not all nails are created equal, and that’s totally okay! Some are super strong, others a little more flexible, and most of us sit somewhere in between. At Mooeys, we’re all about helping you understand your natural nails and making sure your mani lasts as long as it should, no matter what nail type you’re working with.
What is a “normal” nail, anyway?
A healthy, natural nail often has a slight bend to it, that little bit of flexibility is completely normal and nothing to worry about. If you’ve got naturally strong nails, then you’re one of the lucky ones! A regular Gel Manicure will usually be more than enough to keep your nails looking gorgeous for weeks. The gel will adhere well and give you that flawless finish with good durability.
But here’s the thing.. strong nails aren’t invincible.
Even the healthiest nails (and best gel manicures) need a bit of protection. Excess exposure to water, harsh cleaning chemicals, and garden dirt can cause your gels to lift or chip. So if you’re scrubbing dishes, tackling the bathroom, or planting your spring bulbs, pop on those gloves and protect your hands!
If your gel isn’t lasting…
If your nails tend to flex a bit more, or you notice your gel starts to lift or chip before the two-week mark, it might be time to level up to a Gel manicure with a builder base. This gives your nails a bit of added strength and structure, helping the gel stay put longer while also protecting your natural nail underneath. Think of it as your gel’s little bodyguard!
Builder base is perfect if your nails are naturally a bit softer, or you just want that extra peace of mind between appointments.
The aftercare that makes all the difference
No matter what your nail type is, cuticle oil is your best friend. Keeping your nails and cuticles hydrated not only helps your manicure last longer, but also keeps the skin around your nails looking neat and healthy. Pop a little on before bed each night and you’ll be amazed at the difference.
We hope this helps and look forward to seeing you soon
