A little while ago, we shared a blog all about tipping in the salon industry – a topic that can sometimes feel a bit awkward or even controversial here in the UK. Unlike in some countries where tipping is built into the culture and even relied upon to make up wages, here it’s never expected, but always appreciated.
At Mooeys, we see tipping as what it really is: a thank you. A small gesture that says, “I loved my treatment, and I value the person who just gave me their time, skill and care.”
To show you just how much those tokens of appreciation can mean, we asked some of our lovely team across Mooeys salons what they do with their tips. The answers were as heart-warming (and fun!) as you’d imagine.

“My tips go into my savings for a rainy day or a day out with the kids. We don’t have planned until half term but we may possibly go to Marwell Zoo!”

What we loved most about gathering these stories is how much variety there is in what a tip can mean. For some, it’s saving towards a big life goal like a home or holiday. For others, it’s those small moments of joy – a takeaway, a cheeky lunch, or a fun day out with the kids.
It just goes to show that while tipping is never expected at Mooeys, those small gestures truly make a difference.So next time you’re in the salon and you want to show your appreciation, know that your tip isn’t just pocket change -it’s part of something bigger.
